This animated documentary asks a couple of kids the universal question: What do you want to be when you grow up? Simple yet engaging, this critically-acclaimed film incorporates hand-drawn characters with watercolor backgrounds.
Originally, the film started out as an exploration of the differences between the south side and north side of Huntington, IN. The filmmakers prepared a list of questions that weren’t leading and hoped to glean information through the answers of young children. While they did make some interesting discoveries (namely the choice of pastime for the kids-biking vs. video games), it ultimately wasn’t enough for a film. However, they did find that the most interesting responses came from the classic question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” So, the film’s theme slowly morphed in that direction.
